We’ve had the pleasure of catering many beautiful weddings in 2019, and as the year draws to a close we’re looking at wedding trends for 2020.
Wow, what a wedding season! We love what we do – how could we not love sharing in so many celebrations of love? We’ve worked with couples all across The Cotswolds to create memorable wedding menus for their special day. 2019 is almost over and our diaries are beginning to fill up for next year as well. If you’re getting married next year and aren’t sure what to have on the menu, you can talk to our team of experts – in the meantime, we think that these will be some of the biggest wedding trends for 2020!
Grazing tables and food stations
We predict that these are going to be very popular and will be making their way into our menus very soon! They can be savoury or sweet, cheese tables, dessert stations. Grazing tables are packed with a carefully-curated selection of cold meats, olives, dips, and breads, which have been chosen to compliment the canapes. Your grazing table doesn’t have to be savoury either. We love grazing tables loaded with fruit, biscuits, cakes, chocolates and mini desserts as well!
A grazing table isn’t a buffet – rather than loading up a plate, you’re encouraged to keep popping back for a few bits throughout the night.
We’ve also seen a lot of food stations dedicated to kids and the young at heart, from ice cream vans and chocolate fountains to popcorn machines and candy floss machines.
Edible wedding favours
We’re seeing a huge shift in the sorts of wedding favours that people are popping on the table. They’re choosing to be more environmentally friendly and shying away from plastics and items that might end up in the bin, choosing instead a delicious treat to remind guests of their special day. Think jars of homemade jams, local honey, personalised biscuits and cookies. Homemade is key!
Evening food and late-night snacks
Instead of an afterthought, we predict that evening food will be in the spotlight in 2020. In the past, couples have focussed on the main event in the afternoon and any food in the evening has been there as a necessity to soak up the booze, but not anymore! We predict a move away from sausage rolls or trays of sandwiches. Instead, there are going to be pizza ovens, hog roasts and live cooking stations where you can take your pick.
Informal grazing tables are going to be a huge wedding trend for 2020, allowing guests to soak up the bubbles at their leisure and keep the party going. We’ve also seen far more bowl meals being served in evenings this year – perfect for when you need something a little more substantial!
