You are currently viewing Venue Spotlight – Oxleaze Barn

Oxleaze Barn, a family farm dating back to the 1700’s, is nestled in the unspoiled Cotswold landscape of Filkins, Lechlade. A beautiful barn that prides itself on their organic ethos in protecting and preserving its surrounding natural environment – a perfect location to celebrate!

The Ross and Ross team are incredibly fortunate to have been catering weddings at this gorgeous Cotswolds gem for well over 10 years. We are incredibly proud to now be the sole caterer and we can’t wait to help many more gorgeous couples tie the knot! Oxleaze is a truly magical place, with its stunning country charm and something new lurking round every corner. Don’t just take our word for it! We met with the team to discuss all the wonderful things this venue has to offer.

Can you tell me a little about this history of Oxleaze?

Oxleaze Farm has been owned and managed by the Mann family since 1949 and is now being passed down to the third generation. Oxleaze has proudly been an organic farm since the late 90s and is closely involved with government schemes and conservation projects to continually improve biodiversity and soil health. In April 2014 the main barn opened to the public as an event and wedding venue.

Can you talk us through your lovely spaces available to use?

We have the main barn and the milling barn which are adjoined and date back to 1700s. The Milling Barn now houses the stylish new bar and can be used for more intimate ceremonies, drinks receptions and evening entertainment!

The beautiful main barn is where the wedding breakfast takes place and can also be used for ceremonies for larger numbers. Bi fold doors open into the pretty landscaped courtyard with a fire pit at the top. This space is wonderful all through the year for ceremonies, drinks, games, and general fun. Festoon lighting as well as back lights create a magical setting as evening falls.

Couples also have the choice of hiring the Private Gardens for 2 hours which are carefully tended to all year round and are incredibly beautiful through each season. Couples also have most of the fabulous farm to wonder around with their photographer.

Tell us a little about the atmosphere at Oxleaze?

Oxleaze Barn is totally unique as it’s still a fully working farm so on the way in you’ll see our cattle, horses, ponies, ducks, geese, chickens, and no doubt farm dogs! Because of our setting in the Cotswold countryside Oxleaze is incredibly peaceful and beautiful with plenty of wildlife.

What do you think sets you apart as a venue?

Our commitment to sustainability due to our unique countryside setting, having exclusive use of the barns and accommodation during your hire, the exquisite private gardens, our events team’s commitment to looking after our couples every step of the way from their first viewing. And of course, the incredible food and drink from Ross & Ross starting in January!

What are your personal favourite parts of a wedding day?

My favourite part of the wedding day is that special moment right after the ceremony, before all the photos, drinks, and canapes, when all the pressure has gone, and the B&G have a few special moments on their own to take in what they have just done – it’s a really magical. And ironically at the same time the photographer is herding the rest of the guests like sheep to get into a confetti line!

What does the future have in store for Oxleaze?

We will always stay true to our farm roots and continue to try and educate those who choose Oxleaze as their wedding venue on the importance of farm life and looking after the land. We’ll listen to our couples and no doubt adapt bits and pieces along the way, bit mainly we’ll keep delivering weddings that our couples can remember fondly for the rest of their lives.
